The Falla family’s coffee legacy began in Guatemala’s Antigua Valley in 1890. In the 1960s, Arturo Falla Cofiño, a third-generation coffee grower, expanded the family’s operations by acquiring a 100-hectare neighboring plot. He named it "El Tempixque" after the iconic tempisque tree at its gate. Organized by traditional “tablones” (plots), the estate was initially planted with bourbon trees, shaded by Grevillea and bordered with macadamias. Over time, additional varieties like caturra, catuaí, marsellesa, and soon, gesha, were introduced, with a plot-by-plot renewal cycle every 20 years.

After Arturo’s passing in 1992, his son Estuardo took the reins, modernizing the operation with in-house wet and dry milling facilities and launching a family-run exporting company. This allowed the Fallas not only to process and export their coffee but also to provide services to other estates. Today, El Tempixque produces 11 containers of Rainforest Alliance-certified coffee annually while supporting local farms.

The fifth generation, Adrian and Sebastian, is bringing fresh innovations in small-batch processing and expanding into global markets. They also lead community initiatives through the Arturo Falla Cofiño Association, providing education, healthcare, and support to El Tempixque’s 160 employees and over 500 small-scale producers in the region.
