The Ayele Tulu Washing Station, located in the Demeka Becha Kebele of Sidama's Bona Zuria district, 100 km from Hawassa, Ethiopia, was founded by second-generation grower Ayele Tulu and his son, Tsegab. Tsegab oversees quality protocols from harvest to export. Known as "Highland Coffee," the station processes cherries from 600 smallholders annually. Bona Zuria’s high elevation, fertile soil, and unique climate make it a key region for producing exceptional, high-quality coffee.
Ripe cherries are de-pulped, fermented for 24-72 hours, soaked overnight in Daddaye River water, and dried on raised beds for 10-15 days. This meticulous process ensures crisp sweetness and vibrant acidity, showcasing the region’s unique microclimate and exceptional techniques before final processing in Addis Ababa.
